Eco-Friendly, Energy-Efficient Designs

Modulex is a firm supporter of the Kyoto Protocol and is doing its part to reduce CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions when constructing its homes. We have developed an environmental policy positioning our manufactured products as eco-friendly and extremely energy efficient. We are doing our best to limit our impact on the environment and create a healthy and comfortable living environment for all.

Look to Modulex for quiet, visually appealing homes that control humidity and provide excellent air circulation.

Health and Comfort

A healthy home for the whole family

At Modulex, we ensure traces of contaminants (formaldehyde) in our homes are kept to a minimum and our wood moisture content is never higher than 17%. We only use dry lumber for all our structural elements, including roof trusses. All Modulex wall systems have been tested and approved by Quebec Energy Efficiency Agency engineers.

HRV: A Mechanically Controlled System for Maximum Comfort

Heat recovery ventilation systems (HRV) boost the efficiency of the Modulex POLAR THERMO-PLUS system. By mechanically controlling the air entering and leaving your home, you can recover 60% of the heat inside. Save money and conserve energy, as the system makes your home a healthier environment, removing exhausted stale air and replacing it with fresh outdoor air.

When you purchase your home, you will receive an exclusive Modulex instructional DVD explaining the energy efficiency features that come with your home.

Did you know...?

The cellular structure of wood makes it a natural thermal insulator. It insulates ten times more than concrete and 400 times more than steel. Used as a construction material, wood helps keep homes warm and cozy.

Eco-management

Eco-management

Modulex encourages ecologically responsible management of energy, water, and waste throughout your home’s construction. All our homes are Novoclimat-certified for Quebec and Super-E certified for British markets and Canadian markets.

It pays to be environmentally friendly!

Help protect the environment and save at least 25% on heating and electricity costs each year with Novoclimat and Super-E programs.

Did you know...?

Wood is one of the few renewable natural construction materials. It is not radioactive and does not give off harmful gases, allergenic dust, or static electricity. Wood also helps reduce excess greenhouses gases by capturing carbon.

Novoclimat program: Benefits for every budget

Novoclimat
  • Warm and comfortable flooring: From the basement to the attic, Modulex uses insulation that surpasses industry standards to deliver superior energy efficiency at a lower cost.
  • No unpleasant drafts: Wall and roof construction techniques eliminate drafts and protect the home against humidity.
  • Fresher air indoors: Much more than an air exchanger, the heat recovery and ventilation system (HRV) exhausts unpleasant odors, pollutants, excess humidity, and contaminants from your home, replacing them with fresh air and removes window condensation.
  • High performance heating: Modulex will fit your home with high-efficiency devices to ensure maximum comfort, whether you heat with electricity, natural gas, or oil.
  • Watertight windows and doors: Modulex only uses energy efficient windows and doors.
  • The wall systems for our homes have all been inspected, tested, and approved by the government.

Eco-construction

Modulex can adapt to building code standards for your city, region, or country. They can also accomodate any special requests from the architects or engineers that you work with.

We encourage environmentally friendly projects that meet your needs while always keeping those of future generations in mind:

  • As often as possible and depending on availability, Modulex uses natural and recycled construction materials and products with minimal environmental impact.
  • Modulex has developed an in-house traceability system for the wood it uses, ensuring that it comes from managed forests that respect environmental standards.
  • Modulex can construct homes using wood from Forest Stewardship Council-(FSC) certified forests or other environmental certification programs.

Modulex carefully selects the healthiest and safest materials, including insulating and soundproofing panels made from recycled cardboard fibers and kiln dried structural lumber. Bracing panels for the floors, walls, and roof are made out of woodchips from fast-growing trees that are less dense and regenerate more quickly. Homes built with exterior bracing panels made from extruded polystyrene are made out of 35% recycled materials.
