John Glover is a retired strategic planner for the Port of Oakland. He wanted to build a home on the water in Point Richmond. John designed the home himself, and has managed the entire project from the plans through foundation and construction.

John is a lifelong resident of the East San Francisco Bay Area with degrees in architecture and transportation engineering from U.C. Berkeley, John worked for the Port of Oakland for 34 years, including 16 years as Director of Strategic Planning and two years as Deputy Executive Director. He retired in July, 2004. John was licensed as an architect in 1976, and recently used those skills to design the home he is now building as a transition into retirement. His other retirement plans include his passions for skiing, hang gliding, kayaking, motorcycling, travel, his three children and one grandchild, and, soon, relaxing with a bottle of wine and good friends on the roof deck of his new home.
